Victoria invites students from 92Y’s Center for Arts Learning and Leadership residencies in NYC Public Schools to a virtual visit of her studio. In addition to the studio visit (featuring Victoria’s mom!), the video includes an art-making activity based on Victoria’s Strata, series of collages, which have been shown at the 92Y Faculty exhibition, and in Italy at the historic Villa Monastero on the shore of Lake Como.
Enjoy creating a landscape painting at home by making your own “Paper Mountains” with Victoria and her friend Candela, a middle school student in Madrid. This activity begins by examining Storm in the Mountains, 1892 by Baldomer Galofre Giménez in the Hispanic Society Museum & Library’s excellent collection. Using crayons, watercolors, and crunched up paper, Victoria shows students how to make their own observed landscape paintings at home. The video features examples made by students of all ages from around the world (and some parents too!). Be sure to tag @hispanicsociety and #papermountainschallenge when sharing your artwork, we’re really looking forward to seeing the beautiful landscapes you create!
Make your own illustration of “Animals at Home” inspired by Francisco de Goya’s Asta su Abuelo, 1797-99 from the Caprichos series in the Hispanic Society Museum & Library’s collection. Join Laura and her friend Audrey, a high school student in Queens, NY for a fun activity creating an ink wash illustration of what animals might do while stuck at home. The video features examples made by students of all ages from around the world. Be sure to tag @hispanicsociety and #animalshavingfunathome when sharing your artwork, we’re really looking forward to seeing all of your drawings of animals!
Bobbie and her friend Emily, a high school student in Queens, NY analyze the still life painting Fruits of Fraga, 1915-18 by Miguel Viladrich Vilá in the Hispanic Society Museum & Library’s collection. In a fun twist on the traditional still life theme, they show you how to set up and light your own still life to create a dramatic photograph. The video features examples made by students of all ages from around the world. Be sure to tag @hispanicsociety and #stillathomelife when sharing your artwork, we’re really looking forward to seeing all of your photographs!
Victoria interviewed her friend artist Erin Treacy for a video lesson created for students from 92Y’s Center for Arts Learning and Leadership residencies in NYC Public Schools. Erin has been working on a series of Compost Drawings that will be exhibited at Boxheart Gallery in Pittsburgh this August. Victoria shows students how to create their own mixed-media drawings of kitchen and garden scraps inspired by Erin’s work.
Victoria leads students through an art and science activity inspired by Study of a Bird (A.H. 1043/A.D. 1634) by Riza-yi `Abbasi in the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s collection. Students will create their own “study of a bird” by researching a species on the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s website, AllAboutBirds.org.
Victoria and Andrew’s Portfolio Preparation class at 92Y was featured in the NY Times! Check out Ted Loos’ article “Class is in Session Everywhere Now” to read about distance learning offerings from cultural institutions.

Victoria created a series of three videos for students from 92Y’s Center for Arts Learning and Leadership residencies in NYC Public Schools. The videos include an art and science lesson where we research and draw birds inspired by a piece in the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s collection, an interview with the artist Erin Treacy about her “Compost Drawings” series followed by a lesson on how we can make our own drawings based on her work, and a virtual visit to Victoria’s NYC studio followed by an activity based on her “Strata” series of collages.
Febrer Arts partnered with the Hispanic Society Museum & Library to create video art lessons based on works in the collection. Each video is co-taught by one of our teaching artists together with a young art student, and includes examples made by students and families from around the world. You can paint “Paper Mountains” with Victoria and her friend Candela, a middle school student in Madrid; draw “Animals at Home” with Laura Gauthier and her friend Audrey, a high school student in Queens, NY; and make a “Photographic Still Life” with Bobbie and her friend Emily, also a high school student in Queens, NY.
